I am currently organising a Zombie Flashmob in the Meadowhall shopping centre (on the outskirts of Sheffield) for Buy Nothing Day (28/11/09), a worldwide event that tries to highlight the damage being done to our environment and society by rampant consumerism.
Buy Nothing Day aims to build awareness how consumer culture causes environmental degradation and societal issues such as obesity, over reliance on credit (which massively contributed to the recession) & dependance on trade with oppressive regimes, so I am organising a zombie flashmob to illustrate how by mindlessly going through the motions of consumer culture we are actually consuming each other.
I am promoting this event as the ‘Buy Nothing Day Consumer Virus Outbreak’ and I hope that you can help me ensure a decent turnout.
